Recognition

Of all the nominations and awards I’ve received, two stand out. I was nominated twice and won once for the Innovative Labour Solutions Award recognizing Inclusive Business Leaders in Surrey, Delta, and White Rock for hiring people with disabilities. Between 2014 and 2019, Stenberg College’s marketing department employed six individuals with developmental disabilities from Semiahmoo House Society. It was an incredibly rewarding and memorable experience. The other was the Graphis Gold Award in 2010 for the poster from my documentary on homelessness, Something to eat, a place to sleep and someone who gives a damn. I remember when I told Darcy, the homeless fellow featured on the poster, that he had won and he was so proud. The photo was shot by Ken Villeneuve while I chatted with Darcy.
